Infinite Grace
Golden horses gallop my cherry chariot
Through endless orchards of pink roses!
I am distracted by the shape of my fingernail
And a song that’s stuck in my head
You ask me “are you blessed?”
I look up and say “why yes!”
As I bask in the bliss
Of the golden pink perfume
Ten minutes go by
And I forget what I professed
Fresh petals pepper me with kisses —
I feel nothing against my bare skin
The divine cradles me in silk blankets and I do not even notice!
What will my punishment be?
The price for not seeing
Is not to see
And in boundless grace I am offered
Another chance

The humpback turtle carries me
Across crystal waters to hidden caves of ancient diamonds!
I am absorbed by a stain on my shirt
Pondering what to eat for my next meal
You ask me “are you blessed?”
I breathe deep and say “why yes!”
As I merge with the beauty
Of salty rainbows over the shimmering sea
Two moments slip by
And I forget what I was shown
The sea serenades me sweetly —
Its call mute in my deaf ears
The divine whispers minuets in my ear and I pay it no mind!
What price will I have to pay?
The cost of not hearing
Is not to hear
And in boundless grace I am offered
Another chance

The divine’s response
To forgotten blessings
Is to reveal itself
Again and again
In the pink ocean of the setting sun
The fresh spring of the coconut tree
And the hanging mist of the mountain pines
Our repeated ignorance
Is met with infinite grace
And in boundless love we are given endless chances
To remember
Over and over again
